Play equipment refurbished recently at a cost of £50,000 has been damaged by children.
Now parish councillors are urging parents to make sure their children use the playground at Peak Dale sensibly.
Wormhill Parish councillors’ were told of the damage by their Clerk, following an inspection by the High Peak Borough Council Playgrounds Officer.
Some of the equipment in the children’s playground on School Road had been vandalised, with seating on the four-seat rotary swing stabbed and slashed.
Each seat will need replacing, and in addition another piece of equipment had been tampered with which will also need repair.
The Borough Council have been instructed to carry out these essential repairs by Wormhill Parish Council with the bill likely to run into a couple of hundred pounds.
Councillors said they were saddened that newly-installed play equipment should be treated in this manner as it gavepleasure to so many young children.
Councillors are hoping that parents of children who use this play area will keep a watch for improper use, otherwise further expensive repairs will be required again.
