Tyre safety in the High Peak

HIGH Peak motorists are being urged to get ready for winter by checking their tyres during Tyre Safety Month.

UK law says there must be at least 1.6mm of tread across the central three-quarters of each tyre and the original tread pattern must be visible across the whole tyre.

For each tyre below the legal limit, motorists can be fined up to £2,500 and get three penalty points on their licence.
