Tributes have begun to appear on a Buxton road where a popular and much-loved young man lost his life.

Carl Buxton, 20, of Buxton, sadly died on Bakewell Road in the early hours of Tuesday.

The road was closed for almost six hours.

Flowers and messages have been placed at the scene.

One of them describes him as an 'angel in the sky'.

On the Buxton Advertiser's Facebook page, residents told of their shock at the tragedy and sent their condolences to Mr Buxton's loved ones.

A Derbyshire police spokesman said: "Officers were called to the A6 Bakewell Road, near the Morrisons supermarket, just after 2.30am on Tuesday following reports that a van had collided with a man.

"Police closed the road while collision investigators examined the scene and recovered the van.

"Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 33 of April 19."
