THE ANNUAL Buxton Wells Dressing Festival gets underway this weekend with the blessing of the wells and the crowning of this year’s royalty.
High Peak Mayor Cllr David Lomax, clergy, ministers and the 2010 Wells Dressing Festival retinue, will meet at St Anne’s Church at 1.45pm on Sunday before a civic procession through the town to bless the wells. Music will be provided by Fairfield Band.
The procession will then make its way to St John’s Church where the 2011 Royalty, queen Danielle Thurlow and rosebud Keira Sweetmore, will be crowned at 3pm.
Sunday’s events mark the start of a week of activities as part of the wells dressing festival, which culminates in the annual carnival procession taking place on Saturday July 16.
