THE Peak District National Park Authority unanimously re-elected High Peak Borough Councillor Tony Favell as chair at its annual meeting.
Cllr Favell, who has lived in Edale for 42 years, is a former MP for Stockport who founded a solicitors’ practice in Hathersage and is a former president of Hope Show and the Longshaw Sheepdog Trials Association.
Cllr Favell said: “I want to make it my business in the coming year to encourage many more young people to take advantage of the opportunities we have here.”
Unanimously re-elected deputy chair was Geoff Nickolds, a member appointed by the Defra Secretary of State for his expertise in conservation, recreation management and access to the countryside.
The Authority elected a new chair and vice-chair of its planning committee.
Chair is Cllr Lesley Roberts, a parish representative who lives in the national park at Upper Hulme in Staffordshire. The new vice-chair of planning is Cllr Judith Twigg, a Derbyshire County Council representative from Bakewell who also sits on Derbyshire Dales District Council. Cllr Twigg has been an Authority member since 1992.
The Authority welcomed several new members including Cllr Barrie Taylor, representing Derbyshire County Council), from Whaley Bridge.
