Threat to oldest park is lifted – for now

HIGH Peak Borough Council have withdrawn an application to built three new homes on land to the rear of Serpentine House in Buxton.

The application prompted strong criticism from local residents and groups including members of Buxton Civic Association.

They feared the development would shatter the peace of Buxton’s oldest park.

Vehicle access to the site, formerly only used by the parks department, would be via a pathway which is an integral part of the Grade 2* listed historic park, used by residents and visitors alike.

The proposal, including the renovation of the original house, was for three new four-bedroomed homes, which would all use the same single-track access.

The application had been due to go before HPBC’s Development Control Committee. It is not yet clear if the council plans to resubmit the application.
