TWO Hope Valley women have raised thousands of pounds for charity in memory of their late husbands who both died from heart conditions.

Christine Wilkinson, 57, and Janet Jacobsen, 54, completed a 1,005-mile sponsored cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats in June to raise money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF), the Cardiomyopathy Association and Hathersage Swimming Pool.

Christine’s husband Richard underwent a quadruple heart bypass in 2001 but had a heart attack and died in 2010, aged 61. Janet’s husband John was 41 when he died from cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle, in 1991.

Christine and Janet have so far raised £1,151 for the BHF, £1,042 for the Cardiomyopathy Association and £558 for Hathersage Swimming Pool where they regularly trained.

Janet said: “It was an amazing way to see the countryside and we met some fabulous people along the way. I’m thrilled we managed to raise so much money in memory of Richard and John for three worthy causes.”
