Thousands of drivers given advice about seat belts and car seats

THOUSANDS of Derbyshire drivers received advice about seat belts and child restraints during a safety campaign which ran throughout September.

Derbyshire Police, supported by other organisations making up the Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership and Halfords, offered drivers free child seat safety checks during the campaign, when more than 5,000 people were given advice.

During the campaign, police stopped 117 drivers across the county who were not wearing seat belts. Of these, 105 were given a Fixed Penalty Notice and 12 were cautioned.

Staff from the road safety partnership visited 156 Derbyshire schools to speak to parents about the laws surrounding seat belts and child seat usage and during an online surgery, drivers logged on to the force website to ask officers about the legislation and safe car seats for newborns.
