Plans for a single-site secondary school for Glossopdale have moved a step closer following a positive response from the local community.
More than 90 per cent of people who responded to a consultation on merging Glossopdale Community College onto one site in Hadfield said they supported the move.
Derbyshire County Council is now considering going ahead with its proposals to merge the school’s three separate sites onto Newshaw Lane.
Cabinet member for children and young people, Cllr Kevin Gillott, said: “I am very pleased so many people responded and that the response was overwhelmingly positive.
“Not only will a purpose-built, single-site school benefit students, it will also be a useful resource for local people.
“This is something the community has long been waiting for and I’m glad we’ve been able to come up with these plans in times of severe cuts to our budget by the government.”
The authority is due to discuss the outcome of the consultation and its next move at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
If the plans are agreed, the new school could open by the end of 2017.
