A NEW website offering summer driving advice has been welcomed by Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership.

Created by the Institute of Advanced Motorists, the website explains how to cope with the challenges associated with holiday driving.

Topics covered include journey planning, securing luggage safely, caravan towing, making sure your car doesn’t overheat and sharing the road with vulnerable users such as bikers and horse riders.

Partnership chairman Mike Ashworth said: “Winter driving hazards are well understood but drivers tend to give less thought to the challenges they will face during the summer.

“During the warmer months lots of excited holiday makers and day-trippers travel long distances on unfamiliar roads. It pays to be prepared and the IAM’s website explains simple steps you can take to help you stay safe.”

The address of the IAM’s summer driving website is: www.drivingadvice.org.uk.
