A VOLUNTEER who has continued to help others while fighting her own personal battles with cancer has been recognised with a national award.
Margaret Warren received a commendation from Cancer Research UK after being nominated by Margaret Spencer, manager of one of the charity’s Buxton stores.
Margaret Spencer said: “It is very hard to nominate one volunteer because they are all brilliant but Margaret has had a lot to put up with over the last 18 months.
“She lost her husband to cancer and had cancer herself, resulting in an operation earlier this year but she still kept coming and volunteering.
“She is a star.”
A supporter of the charity for 12 years Margaret, together with her late husband Ron and sister Ann Needham, has also helped raise thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK through the sale of their handmade microwaveable wheat bags.
