CLUBS and community groups are being encouraged to promote healthy and active lifestyles with Derbyshire County Council’s new £180,000 Sports Action Grant fund.
Grants of up to £1,000 will be made available to organisations to provide activities that:
* Encourage more people to take part in sport and physical activities
* Promote healthy and active lifestyles
* Encourage volunteering within sport
Successful bids could include the development of existing local sports initiatives or new projects which support the council’s priority to promote healthy and rewarding lifestyles.
DCC Cabinet Member for Public Health Councillor Carol Hart said: “These grants are designed to encourage local people do their bit for their community and help a little go a long way to influence and improve hundreds of lives.
“The Sports Action Fund ties in with our work to promote sport and recreation to help people achieve their full potential and encourage healthy and rewarding lifestyles and we’re looking forward to supporting local initiatives which help us do this.”
Grants of up to £1,000 will be available to sports clubs and voluntary or community organisations offering sports-related activities.
The fund will be distributed over 18 months through three timetabled rounds. The closing date for the first round of bids is 9am December 12.
Applications will be considered by a panel organised by Derbyshire Sport – a partnership of the county council, other councils and agencies, education and sports groups committed to working together through sport and active recreation to improve the quality of life for local people.
Recommendations will be passed to the county council which will make the final decision. Anyone interested in applying for a grant can find out more at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/sportsactiongrant
