Youngsters got the chance to rub shoulders with Paralympic heroes at a sporting event.

Three disabled pupils from Buxton Community School, in College Road, Buxton, attended the English Institute of Sport Festival in Sheffield, where they met medal winners from the Paralympic Games, as well as Olympian Jessica Ennis.

The festival was held in association with The British Paralympic Association and the aim of it was to support the development of disability sport opportunities and make the most of the increased levels of interest in disability sport following last year’s Paralympic and Olympic Games.

There was a wide variety of sporting activities available for students in wheelchairs to have a go at, including basketball, fencing, rugby, tennis and horse riding.

The students were accompanied on the trip by teaching assistants from the school Jade Hammersley, Pauline Burkinshaw and James Young.
