A special service of rededication is to take place at Buxton’s War Memorial.

The service, on Thursday February 26, will be held at the memorial on the Slopes at 11am.

It has been organised by the Buxton branch of the Royal British Legion.

The Rev John Hudghton will officiate the service and Cllr Alan Barrow, Mayor of the High Peak, and Bernard Graham will be attending.

Mr Graham has been the instigator in the addition of new names to the memorial.

The new names added are Corporal Jack Richardson, of the Sherwood Foresters, Notts and Derbyshire, who was killed in Korea, and Private Freddie Slack of The Welch Regiment, who was killed in Palestine.

Local councillors have also been invited to the event, and the British Legion branch is hoping members of the public will also attend.

The Buxton branch is keen to attract new members. Anyone aged 16 or over, male or female, can join and previous service in the forces is not essential.
