WITH Christmas fast approaching, the High Peak Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) are advising locals to get saving now for the festive season.
The CAB will be giving away money boxes for the next two months, and are encouraging people to save at least £1 a day towards the cost of Christmas.
Last year, the CAB dealt with over 4,000 debt problems, many of them after Christmas, so this year they want to encourage people to save more. The free money boxes will be available at 24 advice outlets across the High Peak.
Stephen Minter at High Peak CAB said: “Times are tough at the moment, but we all like to splash out on our families at Christmas. This can be expensive and the temptation is to borrow now and pay later.
“Imagine saving before Christmas and greeting the new year without any debt. Even saving a pound a day will put £50 in the Christmas kitty.”
