THE newly refurbished Longnor Community Fire Station was officially opened last Thursday by Councillor Jason Hails, chairman of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
The station has been transformed in the past year, with an extension for community facilities added to the side of the building and a complete internal refurbishment.
The community room has been named after former firefighter John Storer who worked at the station for 36 years before passing away in 1997.
Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive, Peter Dartford said: “The new community fire station looks great and is in keeping with the local area. The station has remained operational throughout thanks to the co-operation between the contractors and the firefighters.
“Over the coming years most of our stations will be refurbished or rebuilt – our vision for the future is for all our fire stations to sit at the heart of the community and enhance the facilities available for members of the local area to benefit from.
“The refurbishment of Longnor has brought us one step closer to that vision and we hope it will be welcomed by everyone in the village.”
Partners and community groups can book the new facilities, which seats up to 15 people, by emailing: email@example.com. or by ringing 01785 898897.
