A MOSAIC depicting the rivers of New Mills is to be auctioned off for charity.

Designed and created by local artist Deborah Pitman with help from people who attended the One World Festival in New Mills, the mosaic represents the two rivers in the town, which are now clean and healthy following years of pollution from the local printworks.

Some of the items for the mosaic, such as pieces of broken glass, were donated by the Oxfam shop on Union Road, and Deborah has now donated the artwork back to Oxfam for a silent auction to raise money following the drought in Africa.

Deborah said: “I just think this is a really lovely thing to support and I’d like to thank everyone who helped.”

The auction will run for two weeks, until August 18 and bids should be placed in a sealed envelope and taken to the Oxfam shop.

Bidding starts at £250.
