River warning to Bradwell youngsters

BRADWELL youngsters are being reminded about the dangers of playing near or in rivers.

The warning comes from police after two 13-year-old boys were found playing in the Bradwell Brook, near to Springfield Road, in a small dinghy on Friday, April 27. They were spotted by residents who contacted police after they were concerned about their safety.

PCSO Anthony Boswell of the Hathersage Area Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Rivers have hidden dangers and due to the amount of rain we have had recently, the river has swelled its banks and is flowing much faster than usual.

“Fortunately the boys were not hurt at all in this instance but we have spoken to their parents and advised the youngsters of the risks of playing in the river.”

PCSO Boswell added: “We would encourage youngsters not to play in or near to the river and ask that parents remind their children about the dangers.”
