High Peak-born TV presenter Tess Daly was reunited with her former dance teacher at the grand final of Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday.
Buxton dance teacher Michael Hough was at the Strictly final at Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom, courtesy of his current pupil Edwina Currie, a contestant on this year’s show.
And as well as enjoying the nail-biting final, which was watched by over 12 million people, Michael had time to catch up with the show’s presenter Tess, who is from Birch Vale and used to attend his junior classes while at school locally.
Michael had a ringside seat as Edwina took to the floor with her dance partner Vincent Simone, alongside the show’s other eliminated contestants, and for the crowning of the 2011 Strictly champions, McFly drummer Harry Judd and dance partner Aliona Vilani.
But viewers in Hayfield almost missed out on seeing the final, which was broadcast in 3D for the first time.
A power failure plunged the village into darkness at around 5.30pm on Saturday leaving residents concerned they wouldn’t be able to watch the glitterball final.
Engineers managed to restore the power in time for the start of the show at 7pm.
