FOUR friends are embarking on a road trip with a difference – all in the aid of charity.

Lee Chadwick, Neil Brown, John Hopwood and Lee Morgan, all from New Mills, will be among 70 vehicles taking part in the Crumball Rally – a 920-mile adventure drive over three days from Boulogne in Northern France to Nice on the French Riviera.

And they have to knock off the miles in two cars which are a minimum of 15-years-old and each cost no more than £200 – a Peugeot 306 diesel and a Vauxhall Cavalier 1.8-litre petrol.

Neil said: “The aim of the rally is not to get to the meeting points in the quickest time – but just to get there at all, and on the same day!”

The rally begins next Thursday, when the teams will travel 430 miles from Boulogne to Strasbourg.

Following a 230-mile journey through The Alps in Switzerland to Lake Como in Italy on the second day, the event culminates with the final 260-mile leg between Como and Nice.

The four High Peak competitors will be raising money for Weston Park Hospital cancer charity in Sheffield.

“We have self-funded the trip so all the donations we receive are going to charity,” added Neil.

“We need as much help from donations and sponsors as we can get, big or small it all counts.”
