CELEBRATING her 100th birthday this week with a message from the Queen has been New Mills resident Mary Barrett.

A resident of the Watford House Care Home, Mrs Barrett, enjoyed a party to mark the occasion.

After living in Chinley for 40 years, Mrs Barrett moved to the home two years ago.

Born in Hardwick Green, Manchester, Mrs Barrett was one of ten children.

She and her late husband Alf had a daughter Barbara, two grandsons and two great grandsons.

After almost 40 years spent working as a shirtmaker, she retired to the High Peak.
