THE new council leader came under fire after over the distribution of seats across the parties.
The Conservative group tried to swap one of their seats on the licensing pane for an extra seat on one of the scrutiny committees.
Cllr Tony Ashton said: “She is saying one thing in opposition and another as council leader.”
He said the Labour group did not have a clear mandate and scrutiny had never been more important.
Cllr Emily Thrane said the expertise of the new leader did not extend to mathematical political balance.
She was supported by acting Liberal Democrat group leader Ray Atkins: “I believe scrutiny committees must be a fair representation.”
However the motion was defeated and the committees were approved as proposed by the Labour group.
