Flying the flag for our armed forces

HIGH Peak Mayor Pat Jenner is urging local residents to turn out in force for a special flag-raising ceremony in Buxton.

Cllr Jenner will attend an event on Monday June 25 when former service personnel from Buxton raise modified versions of the Union Flag, echoing similar events nationwide.

He will then address guests including ex-servicemen and women, members of the Royal British Legion, and councillors.

The flag-raising will be a prelude to the annual British Armed Forces Day, taking place on Saturday, June 30 to promote understanding of the crucial role played by the Armed Forces in defending the nation.

Cllr Jenner said: “We need to demonstrate to our heroic Armed Forces that we are thinking of them and of the loved ones waiting at home for their safe return.”

The ceremony takes place at 10am by the flag pole next to the bandstand in the Pavilion Gardens.
