Police in the dark over blackout thieves

POLICE are trying to find out what is behind a series of attacks on electricity sub stations and control boxes which has caused blackouts in Buxton.

Three incidents, which have seen electricity supplies targeted, are being linked by police.

In the early hours of Sunday morning the boiler room at the Pavilion Gardens was broken into, sometime between 2am and 7.30am. Three main electricity supplies were switched off and a fire alarm was smashed.

The same night an electricity substation on Byron Street was broken into at 3.05am. A breaker was tripped interrupting power supplies to local homes.

Two men were also seen interfering with the control box at the bottom of a street lamp on Broadwalk.
