Police have seized a vehicle after they teamed up with river keepers to help stop illegal fishing at Miller’s Dale.

Police were called at around 6.20am on Sunday, August 7 to reports of two men allegedly fish poaching at Miller’s Dale on the River Wye, near Tideswell.

Officers were joined by the area’s river keeper to speak to the two men who they believed to be fishing illegally.

The men were moved on from the area and their fishing equipment was seized.

Further police checks were carried out and the men were found to be driving without valid insurance.

A Volkswagen Passat was then seized by police under section 165 of the Road Traffic Act.

Over the past year, officers from the Derbyshire Constabulary Wildlife Crime Unit have been working in close partnership with the Environment Agency and a large number of fishing clubs across the county to tackle fish poaching.

This has seen joint patrols of Derbyshire river routes being carried out by police and river keepers to deter rural crime and offer reassurance to residents living close to the rivers.
