Plaque will mark railway anniversary

A plaque to commemorate the 150th anniversary of trains arriving in Buxton is being unveiled this Saturday.

As part of the celebrations, a train arriving from Manchester at 11.53am will carry a commemorative headboard. A plaque marking the anniversary will then be unveiled at 12noon by Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, chairman of the High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership.

He said: “This beautiful line has been a lifeline to many local residents and a great benefit to the local economy by helping to bring visitors to the Peak District.”
