Panto star Lucy Dixon took centre stage as Buxton kicked off its festive season in style.

Dixon, best known for her work in BBC’s Waterloo Road and Hollyoaks, will be headlining the family pantomime Show White at Buxton Opera House next month.

And she had the honour of helping High Peak Mayor George Wharmby switch on the town’s Christmas lights during a sparkling event at the Pavilion Gardens on Friday evening.

There was also a seasonal Grand Bazaar, food stalls, children’s rides and a special appearance by Santa to delight the crowds.

Fairfield Band and pupils from St Thomas More, Buxton Junior and St Anne’s schools provided entertainment.
