WHALEY Bridge took a step back in time on Saturday as the town celebrated its annual Rose Queen festivities.

Dry weather ensured people lined the streets for the carnival procession which wound its way through the town on Saturday afternoon featuring a variety of colourful floats and foot characters.

Whaley Bridge Primary School launched its centenary celebrations in Edwardian style as pupils walked the carnival in the costumes of the era, while Buxworth Primary School went medieval.

Other characters who made an appearance included pirates, 101 Dalmatians and the characters from Chicken Run.
