Buxton was brought to a standstill as crowds flocked to the town to catch a glimpse of the Olympic flame.
Day 42 of the nationwide relay saw the Olympic torch travel across Derbyshire taking in Chesterfield, Matlock, Bakewell and Chatsworth. The relay arrived in Buxton just after 5pm and saw eight outstanding individuals given the honour of carrying the Olympic
Torch through the town.
They included Buxton’s own Bill Weston MBE, who entertained the crowds in his own unique style.
Advertiser photographer Jason Chadwick was on hand to capture this historic occasion. Click the link at the side of this page for pictures from the torch relay, and for more see next week’s Buxton Advertiser.
