Performances meant prizes in Whaley Bridge Band’s annual Slow Melody competition.

Musicians from the senior and training bands played solos and duets to a packed audience in the band room last Saturday.

In the training section, the prize-winning soloists were Stephen Farragher on cornet (Wilson Shield), Laura Nettleton on flugel horn (Cedar Finance Shield) and Wendy Nettleton on euphonium (Barry Hunde Trophy). The Shannon Tolley Trophy for best senior soloist went to Lindsay Penney on tenor horn. The ensemble prizes went to Laura Nettleton and Sheila Walton playing a flugel horn duet (Wilson Cup), and trombone duo Peter Brown and Alex Camenzuli (Arthur Hulme Shield).

The Norman Mackay cup for the most improved player in the senior band went to baritone horn player Karen Cridland.
