A hoofed resident of the High Peak will be treading the boards this month when an opera visits Sheffield.

Beethoven the donkey will be leaving his home at the Freshfields Donkey Village, in Peak Forest, to appear in a new production of Bizet’s Carmen when it plays at Sheffield City Hall on April 28.

Director Ellen Kent said: “Incorporating a donkey into the production lends it a real taste of Spain.”
