Seven record-breaking Peak musicians have been recognised for their fundraising efforts after scooping a top award.

Sarah and Tim Hewitt from Buxton, Maggie and Edward Carr from Tissington, Emma Thurlby from Tideswell, Ian Drayton from Sparrowpit and Simon Lewis from Tideswell were all part of the 31-strong Huddersfield Marathon Band which marched the Virgin Money London Marathon in April, playing music all the way round.

In doing so, they not only entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest band to complete a marathon, in a time of six hours and 56 minutes, but also raised over £70,000 for the charity Sense.

And their efforts have now been rewarded with a Creative Fundraiser of the Year award from the international fundraising site JustGiving.com.

A public vote saw the band crowned the winner, after initially making the shortlist.

Anne-Marie Hulby, Managing Director and co-founder of JustGiving, said: “The Marathon Band displayed an outstanding level of commitment to a cause which is clearly close to their hearts.”

Cornet player Tim added: “Being nominated for a JustGiving award really is the icing on an extremely satisfying cake.

“We are so proud to just have been shortlisted from the 300,000 people nominated, so winning really is a very proud moment.

“Thank you so much to everyone who voted for us, sponsored us and helped raise so much money for Sense.”
