HIGH Peak Mayor David Lomax was among the guests at Hayfield’s annual Wright Turner Party at the weekend.
Cllr Lomax joined Hayfield Parish Council chairman Cllr Eva Hodgson and older residents of the village for the event, which was held at St Matthew’s Church Hall on Saturday afternoon. Guests enjoyed afternoon tea, entertainment and a sing-a-long and the event was open to any Hayfield resident over the age of 60.
Wright Turner was a Hayfield resident who held a party for his friends each year. Even after leaving the village and becoming Mayor of Salford, he returned each year to host a party. After his death, he left a bequest for the party to continue and the tradition has continued for around 150 years.
