PANCAKES at Buxton Methodist Church helped feed the world this week.

Money raised from the sale of pancakes at the popular Tuesday cafe is to be donated to the Methodist Relief and Development Fund, which helps some of the world’s poorest communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The fund provides financial and organisational support to community-based organisations, responds to emergencies and also tackles the root causes of poverty such as climate change, unfair debt and trade.

l The traditional Pancake Bell was rung at 11 am on Shrove Tuesday at the Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish Church.

Ringing the bell was Peter Hibbert, whose family have been involved with bell ringing at the church for generations.

The bell used to remind housewives to prepare the pancake batter and also signified a half day holiday for local apprentices.
