Olympics spark powers sail club’s electricity

As the Olympic Torch visited Buxton, Combs Sailing Club were able to celebrate the completion of their Inspired Facilities project to install mains electricity and heating in their clubhouse.

The project, which has been financed by Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund, is one of many similar Olympic Legacy projects across the country.

The Inspired Facilities fund is part of the £135 million Places People Play legacy programme that is bringing the magic of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country. Every sports facility that receives funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark – celebrating the link to the Games.

Nick Donnini, a former member and gold medallist at the World Blind Sailing Match Racing Championships in 2011, officially declared the project complete.

Nick unveiled a commemorative sign and switched on the lights at a well attended party in the clubhouse.

Russell Talbot, Club Commodore, said, “We have wanted to install electricity since 1982.

“This is the biggest improvement we could make to our facilities and it will have a big impact on the club. We are very grateful to Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.”
