AN Olympic-theme provided the inspiration for the Hayfield May Queen celebrations held on Saturday.

The weather held and there was even some sunshine during the parade as it wound its way through the streets of the village.

The crowds were a little down on last years bumper attendance but the event was still well attended.

Taking centre stage was the 2012 Hayfield May Queen royalty - rosebud Jessica Howard, princess Katharine Lowe and queen Laura Lowe.

Once again most of the shops and many householders made a great effort to decorate their premises in an Olympic theme while the parade itself included over 30 bands, groups, village organisations and royalty taking part.

A spokesman for the Festival Committee said: “A huge thank you and well done to everyone who took part in the 2012 May Queen!”

They would like to thank the police and the volunteer marshals who helped with the parade and the army of volunteers, many from the Kinder Mountain Rescue Team, who supported events on the field.

The support of many individual villagers and the May Queen Festival Committee who give freely of their time is vital to ensure the tradition keeps going.
