A Movember-inspired 5k running event is taking place in Buxton next weekend.
Organised by Buxton and District Athletic Club as part of their monthly 5k series, the Must-Dash for the Moustache event is on Saturday November 8 at the Pavilion Gardens and runners of all abilities are being invited to take part.
Sheila Bradley, secretary of Buxton AC, said: “We would love to see lots of first-time runners and regulars come along to join in - it’s free, it’s friendly and it’s for everyone.
“There’ll be a few moustache-related fun things in support of Movember and we’ll raise money for the charity.”
Former Buxton AC member David Carlisle asked Sheila and other club members to help out with his Must-Dash idea after being involved with Movember for the last two years.
He said: “The Movember campaign encouraged me to carry out regular testicular examinations and a couple of years ago when I found a lump, I got straight off to the doctors to get it checked out. Thankfully the medical checks didn’t find anything nasty, but did spot a related problem that the doctor is still monitoring.
“Men can be uncomfortable talking about ill-health and Movember is brilliant by making it much easier. I’m keen to promote it and Must-Dash is a fun way to do just that.”
The 5k run starts at 9am on November 8 and involves three laps of the Pavilion Gardens. There is no need to register in advance, just turn up on Broad Walk near the bottom of Fountain Street.
Since 2003, Movember has raised over £345 million for men’s health charities.
