High Peak MP Andrew Bingham has welcomed the government’s announcement of an extra £1.5m in funding for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The money has been allocated to deliver the kind of transformative change which was identified by the government last year, as well as opportunities identified in an independent review of efficiencies in the fire and rescue sector.
In Derbyshire, the money will fund a project to build a new joint police and fire headquarters. This will enable them to share support services and improve their ability to work together, which will benefit local communities in Derbyshire.
Mr Bingham, who hopes the move will also save money in the long run, said: “The building of a headquarters fit for the 21st century will be a welcome boost to the service and enable them to work better for the people of Derbyshire.
“I hope that it will also save money in the long run, with one building to maintain rather than two, as well as all the energy-efficiency savings that come with a state-of-the-art building.”
