HIGH PEAK MP Andrew Bingham is backing a campaign raising awareness of the dangers of quarries.
The Mineral Product Association’s Stay Safe campaign is highlighting the dangers of the quarries to children, teenagers, parents, teachers and youth workers.
Mr Bingham’s backing for the campaign follows his efforts, along with Derbyshire County Councillor Pam Reddy, local residents and police, to resolve the problem of people flocking to an abandoned quarry in Buxton known as the Blue Lagoon.
He said: “Given the amount of quarries in the High Peak, I’m very pleased to support the campaign warning young people of the very real dangers of trespassing in quarries.
“The campaign is also very relevant to the recent problems at the Blue Lagoon at Harpur Hill which along with Cllr Reddy I am trying to help resolve.”
