Mountain rescuers were called to help a couple who became lost while out walking the Monsal Trail last week.

The couple, from the Prestwich area of Manchester, had called police for help in the late afternoon on Thursday. They had walked along the Monsal Trail from the Monsal Head area, continued to Millers Dale and then headed towards Priestcliffe.

They had no map or other navigational aids apart from a guided walk leaflet downloaded from the internet and became hopelessly lost in the wooded area.

Nineteen team members met at Millers Dale station car park and searched all the footpaths south of the River Wye. Within half an hour, team members had found the couple and guided them back to the station. Neither were injured but both were wet and cold.
