To celebrate the Olympic Torch passing through Buxton, Harpur Hill Parent Volunteer Group held a “Mini-Olympics” for under 8’s.

The children took part in Olympic-themed crafts, making Olympic torches and medals before taking part in a sports day.

Held indoors because of the weather, the children enjoyed traditional races such as a sack race, egg and spoon race and an obstacle course. Each child received a medal before eating their picnic.

Special thanks to Harpur Hill Children’s Centre, Harpur Hill Pre-School, Fairfield Centre, Neil Cotterill for making the podium and to Buxton Water and Tomson Buxton Ltd for donating water and fruit for refreshments.

The event was held at Harpur Hill Children’s Centre. To find out more about the centre or to become a volunteer call 01298 74101.
