Man arrested after New Mills cash machine attacked

A man has been arrested after a cash machine was attacked in New Mills.

A New Mills resident called police at 11.50pm last night (Thursday) to report that men were smashing a hole in the wall next to the cash point at Lloyds TSB in Union Road.

Officers, including a dog unit, were sent to the area and a 40-year-old man was arrested in Sutherland Way. He remains in custody and is being questioned.

Greater Manchester Police officer assisted with the search, along with a police helicopter, but one suspect remains at large.

A pick axe and sledge hammer have been recovered.
