Organisers of Longnor Races are hoping for good weather for the annual event, which takes place next week.

The popular harness racing event, which has been a staple of the High Peak sporting calendar for over 100 years, takes place on Thursday September 5, with a variety of events to keep the whole family entertained.

The first event of the day is the children’s pony gymkhana with a Best Turned Out competition and various gymkhana games, followed by the Open Trotting Handicap (Harness Racing).

Just before the trotting final, the children compete in the dream mile - a fun run of the field, and after the trotting there will be motorbike racing, which this year will include sidecars.

The day finishes with the junior and senior cross country race.

There will be a licensed bar and refreshments will also be available throughout the day.

Hollinsclough Silver band will be providing musical entertainment at various intervals and licensed bookies will be present on the day for the harness racing only.

Longnor Sports Committee secretary Heidi Bradbury said: “We look forward to another action packed day of racing, a great day out for all the family.”

Admission on the gate is £7.50. The event is held on the edge of the village.
