DERBYSHIRE Dales residents are being offered advice on ways to protect themselves from oil theft.
A leaflet containing crime prevention tips on fuel tank security has been created by police and Derbyshire Dales District Council to help locals keep their properties secure.
Safer Neighbourhood Team Sergeant Andy Wordsworth said: “The advice is being offered ahead of the winter months and in the wake of a number of thefts, especially from more rural properties, in the area last year.
“It provides basic information on how to make your oil tank more secure and be less of a target for theft along with additional security measures that can be taken such as tank alarms and oil level gauge alarms.”
The leaflets are available from most police stations and several oil providers have been given supplies to hand out when they make an oil delivery.
Driveway alarms at a discounted price of £20 are available for residents to collect from Bakewell and some other police stations.
