Police in the Glossop area are urging residents to secure their property after a number of car key thefts.

Sergeant Christopher Simcock from Glossop CID said: “Residents are often leaving doors unlocked and their car keys near to the door on work surfaces or hooks. Offenders are then entering properties and taking the keys and then stealing cars.

“We would advise the public not to leave keys near to windows or doors. Keys can easily be hooked through letterboxes and open windows. Also to keep doors locked at all times, even when you are in the house.”

For crime prevention advice, call 101.
