Vote for village royalty

HAYFIELD is still looking for a May Queen after the only candidate to come forward withdrew her application.

Organisers will over the next few days be re-opening nominations for May Queen who must be aged between 11 to 16 and live within the parish.

One position that has already been filled is that of Rosebud with five-year-old Holly Howard taking on the role.

The position of Princess had two nominations and is to be decided in a vote among villagers in Hayfield who will be invited to go to the polls on February 7.

Josie Mann and Anouska Manion, both aged 10, have been put forward for the role. As well as the vote at St Matthew's Church Hall from 10am - 4pm there will be an Exhibition of May Queen photographs. Refreshments will be available.

The results will be announced at a Children's Disco to be held from 7pm to 9pm later the same day at The Royal Hotel.

The theme for the 2009 May Queen Festival is The Sea. So if you would like to decorate your shop, pub, house or street, enter a scarecrow, float or the fancy dress competition, start planning early.

To register your theme and to avoid duplication or if want to find out more about the May Queen nominations should contact Barbara Ramwell on 01663 744471
