Villagers fight for post office
RESIDENTS in Dove Holes where one of the five post office closures in the High Peak is proposed are looking for support in their campaign to keep the office open.
Operating three days a week out of the Methodist Church in the village, it has become a well used facility and in much demand by the residents.
Speaking on behalf of a group of Dove Holes residents, Ken Gibson said, "this Post Office is vital for the people of Dove Holes.
"Without it we face having to make trips to Buxton or Chapel, which for many is not easy. We are asking as many people in Dove Holes to respond to the consultation to try and save the facility."
Supporting the villagers are the High Peak's Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, Andrew Bingham and County Councillor, Tracy Critchlow.
Mr Bingham, who has already condemned the proposed closures across the whole of the High Peak said, "As many people as possible must respond to save their local Post Office.
"These people in Dove Holes are indicative of how people are feeling about these closures; they are furious at the prospect of losing valuable rural services whilst the Government seem to stand by and watch with little apparent interest."
