Traditional home design welcomed by councillors

A MORE traditional design now proposed for the development of new homes in Hayfield has been welcomed by councillors who approved the application.

Earlier plans to build contemporary homes on land off Swallow House Lane had been approved by High Peak Borough Council’s Development Control Committee in a split decision.

At their meeting on Monday, councillors heard the new proposals put forward were for 21 two, four and five-bedroomed homes to be built using reconstituted stone, render and artificial slate.

Cllr Stewart Young said he had voted against the earlier application as he did not like the materials and layout, adding: “This has come back with a far better design with pitched roofs”.

Cllr Bob McKeown said: “When this first came up I was very much against it as I didn’t like the design but this has subsequently changed and is a lot better.”

Committee Chairman David Mellor, who was the only councillor to vote against approval, said residents had raised concerns that the six affordable homes had been lumped together in a corner rather than being spread throughout the site.

However members were told that was not seen as a problem as it was a small development and having the affordable homes altogether was acceptable.

Assurances were given that funding would be in place to provide the necessary traffic calming measures.
