Time-traveller is on his way

A RETIRED Petty Officer is to visit Buxton next week as he makes his way on a charity trek from John O'Groats to Lands End dressed as a 17th Century Pikeman.

With the outfit adding about five stones in weight the walk is a real test of endurance for Malcolm Cray who is raising funds for Help for Heroes, collecting money en route.

He is funding the walk himself so all money raised will go to the charity, stopping at B and B's or with local families. On June 30 is expected to stop with Anne and Tony Spence in Buxton.

Malcolm said: "I've been fortunate that in the whole of my career, even as far as working up in the North Arabian Gulf, I've never sustained any injury. Unfortunately there are those that have. Collecting for Help for Heroes is my way of acknowledging their sacrifice."

Progress to date can be followed at www.thecharitypikeman.blogspot.com and donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/pikeman.
