Year five and six children from Buxton Junior School went back in time on a visit to Stockport Air Raid Shelters.

The children, who have been finding out what it was like to be an evacuee as part of a topic on World War II, and teachers all wore 1940s costumes and even took wartime packed lunches. They had a tour of the tunnels underneath Stockport town centre and at the Stockport Story museum they learned about life during the war.

Year six class teacher Sue Walker said: “The children really enjoyed their day out. The staff at the museum stay in role all day so by the end of the day the children started to wonder if they really had been evacuated!”

She also thanked parents for their help with the trip.
